Loyola University Maryland

Office of the President

Father Linnane with students

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in Loyola University Maryland. My relationship with Loyola dates back more than a decade—I was a Loyola trustee for several years before becoming president in 2005—and with each passing year, my pride in this University continues to grow. The longer my tenure here, the better I come to know the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends who shape this community, the more confident I am that Loyola is a place uniquely well-suited not just for preparing talented individuals to excel in their chosen academic pursuits and careers, but for inspiring the rest of their lives. Mind, body, and spirit.

At Loyola, the ideals that have guided Jesuit universities for nearly 500 years—academic excellence, cura personalis, service, justice, diversity, and integrity—among others, continue to mold the academic, social, and spiritual experiences we offer our students, the programs we pursue, and the relationships we build with the communities that surround us. As a Jesuit priest, it has been very gratifying for me to see the values that have so enriched my own life help our students find direction in theirs—and to see how our enduring Ignatian principles can help us find solutions to the challenges we face in today’s world.

My time as president has been a great gift, and I look forward to continuing to discover Loyola’s potential as we pursue the great opportunities that lie ahead. Throughout this site, I’ve included my biography, links, and other information that will help you learn more about my background and my vision for Loyola University Maryland. I am always interested in hearing the thoughts and perspectives of those with a connection to Loyola, as well as those of prospective students, parents, and faculty, and I encourage you to direct your questions and insights to president@loyola.edu.
