The literacy program at Loyola University Maryland’s School of Education will recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding educators and their impact on their students, schools, and communities, on Feb. 25, 2013, from 6 - 7 p.m. in the 4th Floor Program Room in the Andrew White Student Center on Loyola’s North Charles Street campus.
The event will feature a keynote address by Stergios Botzakis, Ph.D., associate professor in the theory and practice in teacher education department at the University of Tennessee. Botzakis will examine the route U.S education policy makers have taken to arrive at the introduction of Common Core State Standards that have been adapted thus far by 46 states.
The Literacy Leader Award is given to a graduate of Loyola’s Reading Specialist master’s program who deserves special recognition for his or her contributions to education. The Literacy Educator of the Year Award is given to current educator within a Maryland public or private school who deserves special recognition for his or her contributions to education.
