The Loyola University Maryland School of Education welcomes Paul C. Gorski, Ph.D., founder of EdChange and assistant professor of integrative studies at George Mason University, to present “Good Intentions Are Not Enough: Education for Equity and Social Justice,” a lecture on transformative approaches to education. The event will be held on Thursday, March 22 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. in McGuire Hall on the University’s North Charles Street campus.
Gorski will discuss how movements for educational justice often seem to be stalled by what he refers to as “well-intentioned do-gooders more concerned with celebrating diversity than with crafting an equitable and just educational system.” He will provide evidence of this conflict and offer a vision for what alternatives are needed to make real progress in education for equity and social justice.
At George Mason University's New Century College, Gorski teaches courses on class and poverty, educational equity, animal rights, and environmental justice. He is also an adjunct instructor for the Humane Society University, where he designed the undergraduate program in social justice. For 15 years he has been an active consultant, presenter, and trainer for schools and community organizations committed to equity and diversity, and he is serving his second term on the board of directors of the International Association for Intercultural Education. He has published four books and more than 40 articles and continues to manage his award-winning website, Multicultural Pavilion. Gorski leads a team of experienced educators at EdChange to develop resources, workshops, and projects that contribute to progressive change in people, schools, and society.
