Loyola University Maryland’s “Loyola is Listening” program continues Wednesday, Oct. 6 with a public discussion of findings and next steps developing from the initiative, which launched earlier this year to explore the strengths and challenges affecting the York Road neighborhoods just east of Loyola’s Evergreen campus. The event takes place from 7 – 9 p.m. in McGuire Hall on the University’s North Charles Street campus.
Loyola is Listening sessions paired Govans residents and business owners with teams of Loyola faculty and staff trained to ask an extensive series of questions about what the community members liked about their neighborhoods and what they would like to change, the services and amenities they would like to add, and their perspectives on Loyola and its role in the community. The project is designed to help the University identify the best ways for it to play a positive role in the future of the area, engagement which is a key component of the University’s strategic plan.
The Oct. 6 meeting offers an opportunity for members of the York Road communities, as well as Loyola students, faculty, staff, and other friends, to learn more about the information gathered and to share their thoughts on the best ways for the University, community members, and businesses to partner further.
“We are eager to begin working with our neighbors to improve the health, stability, and economic vitality of the York Road corridor and its neighborhoods,” said University President Brian F. Linnane, S.J. “Now that we can review and discuss the information gathered during the listening sessions held earlier this year, we have a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our partnerships with our neighbors and to begin making plans for how we can contribute to the community of which we are a part.”
