Loyola University Maryland’s Modern Masters Reading Series begins its 2010-2011 season Monday, Sept. 13 with an appearance by the poet Bob Hicok. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place at 5 p.m. in the 4th Floor Program Room of the Andrew White Student Center on the University’s North Charles Street campus.
Hicok, winner of five Pushcart Prizes and the Library of Congress’ Bobbitt Prize, and a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist, is the author of several volumes of poetry, including This Clumsy Living, Animal Soul, The Legend of Light, and his most recent, Words for Empty and Words for Full.
The long-running series, which has brought poets, novelists, essayists, and non-fiction authors of national and international acclaim to Loyola’s campus for many years, continues throughout the academic year:
- Wednesday, Oct. 20: Eddy Harris, author of Mississippi Solo, Native Stranger, South of Haunted Dreams, and Still Life in Harlem.
- Tuesday, Nov. 30: Brian Bouldrey, author of the non-fiction books Honorable Bandit: A Walk across Corsica, Monster Adventures in American Machismo, and The Autobiography Box, as well as three novels.
- Tuesday, Feb. 1: Dana Levin, author of Wedding Day and In the Surgical Theatre, and holder of the Russo Endowed Chair in Creative Writing at the University of New Mexico.
- Tuesday, March 15: Maud Casey, author of the novels The Shape of Things to Come and Genealogy and an associate professor of English at the University of Maryland.
- Tuesday, April 12: Joseph O’Neil, author of three novels, including his most recent, Netherland, winner of the 2009 Pen/Faulkner Award.
