More than 1,030 strong, the Class of 2014 arrived at Loyola University Maryland on Friday, Sept. 3.
Drawn from an applicant pool of 10,901, the largest in Loyola’s 158-year history by a margin of nearly 20 percent, the Class of 2014 continues Loyola’s tradition of attracting students with exceptional academic accomplishments and diverse backgrounds. Members of the Class of 2014, with a mean unweighted cumulative class grade point average of 3.5, were selected through an admission process with a heavy emphasis on the level of rigor in their high school curricula and the grades earned in those classes. Notably, 16.5 percent of the class comprises students of minority and multiracial backgrounds—the greatest percentage in University history. The Class of 2014 also hails from 28 states, two U.S. territories, and five foreign countries.
The Class of 2014 is the first admitted under Loyola’s test-optional admission policy. Nearly 20 percent of the enrolling class chose to apply without their standardized-test scores being considered.
“Today’s talented, accomplished students have an extraordinary range of options when it comes to where they pursue their college degrees,” said Elena D. Hicks, Loyola’s director of undergraduate admission. “We have placed a great deal of emphasis on introducing Loyola, its Jesuit traditions and philosophy, and its exciting programs to prospective students from throughout the United States and overseas.
