Eight Loyola University Maryland students enrolled in an intensive English course on manuscript development will showcase the culmination of their year’s work, Music at the Crossroads: Lives and Legacies of Baltimore Jazz, at a launch party on Sunday, May 16. The event takes place from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Eubie Blake Center at 847 N. Howard St. in Baltimore.
“These students have spent months painstakingly researching, drafting, editing, and further revising this book, which explores our city’s extraordinary collection of jazz greats, many of whom are too-often overlooked by traditional jazz histories,” said Mark Osteen, Ph.D., professor of English at Loyola and the class’s teacher. “They’ve also played an important role in developing the cover and design, and working with fellow students in our publishing program to bring the resulting work to print.”
Music at the Crossroads is published by Loyola’s Apprentice House imprint, the nation’s only campus-based, student-run trade publishing company. It will be available for sale at Amazon.com.
The launch party features opportunities to meet the students involved with the project, explore and honor the rich tradition of jazz in Baltimore, and enjoy live music by the Craig Alston Quartet.
