Loyola University Maryland's Julio Fine Arts Gallery will feature "Strange Interlude," an exhibit by artists Cindy Cheng and Chloe Watson, from Monday, Feb. 22 - Sunday, March 28. The artists will also attend a talk and reception on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 5 - 7 p.m.
Cheng and Watson are both MFA candidates at the Mount Royal School of Art at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Their drawings simultaneously explore the relationships between familiar objects and remembrance, seclusion versus interaction, and occupied versus empty space.
Cheng's drawings create a dialogue between looser, spontaneous elements and deliberate decisions, focusing on themes of the body and its inherent struggles of communication and isolation; control and restraint; gender; transformation; and sexuality.
Watson's work employs mundane, utilitarian objects and architectural domestic outdoor spaces such as decks, ladders, and ropes, which represent childhood memories of family relationships and their interactions with these objects.
The Julio Art Fine Arts Gallery, located in the DeChiaro College Center on Loyola's North Charles Street campus, is open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday and from 1 - 4 p.m. on Sundays. It is closed on all University holidays.
