Loyola University Maryland has launched a search for the next dean of its school of arts and sciences, Loyola College.
Loyola College comprises all of the University's graduate and undergraduate programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences with the exception of education. In addition to more than 30 undergraduate majors, these encompass graduate programs in seven disciplines, including doctoral programs in psychology and pastoral counseling. The dean will succeed James Buckley, Ph.D., who has held the position with distinction for the past 10 years. The next dean will play a critical role in advancing the University's current strategic plan, which focuses on the central goal of Loyola becoming the nation's leading Catholic, comprehensive university. A number of the plan's supporting initiatives call upon the leadership of the dean: serving undergraduates by establishing living-learning communities for all first-year students; enhancing the natural sciences; supporting graduate students by augmenting graduate-level services and programs; strengthening, in partnership with the University's other schools, Loyola's Clinical Centers; the addition of tenure-track faculty positions and support for faculty development; and the enhancement of the University's global studies program.
